Have you ever sourced at Costco? During my recent trip there I found over $162 in profit in one quick trip.

I hope to teach you something new today with my 5 Costco Reseller Tips including -

  • Choosing the Right Membership

  • Shopping Costco Online

  • Insurance Options

  • Gas/Fuel

  • & Food

1. Choosing the Right Membership

Costco currently has 4 memberships to choose from. Let’s go over each one so you can decide which is best for you!

Gold Star - This is the standard membership. It is $60 annually (check the website for current rates). This is perfect if you are curious about sourcing Costco and you DO NOT have a reseller certificate.

Executive - This membership offers additional deals, savings and an “Annual 2% Reward on qualified Costco purchases”. This membership will cost you $120 year (check the website for current rates).

If you plan on spending more than $3000 at Costco in a year AND your DO NOT have a reseller certificate, this would be a better option for you.

Business - If you have a Reseller certificate this option is perfect for you! Just bring your reseller certificate with you when you sign up so you can get tax exemption on your inventory purchases.

Because tax free is the way to be!

This membership is the same cost as the Gold Star Membership.

Business Executive - If you have a Reseller certificate AND want the additional benefits included with the Executive Membership, this membership is for you!

This membership is the same cost as the Executive Membership. The biggest difference is the ability to get tax free inventory.

So how do you get tax free on your products when shopping in store?

It’s pretty simple. Just let the cashier know that your purchase needs to be tax free as a reseller. They will fill out a form and have you sign it at the cash register.

You may only request tax exemption on items you are purchasing to resell.

Can you use your business membership to make personal purchases?

YES! If you want to use your business membership to shop at Costco that is perfectly fine. Just DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT request tax exemption on your personal purchases.

You can check out all the Costco membership details by visiting https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/857/kw/tax%20exemption

2. Shopping Costco Online

2 Day Delivery - This service has no fee for orders $75 or more (check website for current rates)

Frozen and Refrigerated delivery - This service has no fee for orders $100 or more (check website for current rates)

Reminder - Whichever option you may choose, please tip your delivery driver!

Can you get tax exempt on your online orders? Yes! You will first have to pay for the taxes, and then fill out a reimbursement sheet.

3. Insurance Options

Costco offers a lot of really great services like Pet Insurance, Business Health Insurance, Employee Benefit Plans, Life Insurance, Vision, Dental, Home and Auto Insurance.

These could be really great solutions for small business owners. I don’t have any of these services personally but I thought I would share this info just in case you want to look into it!

All the information is available on Costco’s website.

4. Gas/Fuel

Besides lugging out ginormous amounts of toilet paper. Going to the Costco’s gas station has got to be my favorite part of my membership.

Costco offers fuel that is not only affordable, but high quality TopTier Gas! You can learn more about Top Tier Gas at www.toptiergas.com …. because that’s a thing.

The gas pumps can get pretty backed up! I would recommend going early or late OR be prepared to wait patiently in line.

5. Food

Where can you find an 18” pizza under $10? A pizza slice for $2? A hotdog for $1.50?

You guessed it! It’s the Costco’s concession stand which makes this a really great place to stop for a cheap meal or pick up a family pizza dinner.

Not only do they have hot fresh food, they like to pass out samples in the grocery section, which I love.

Conclusion

Having a Costco membership has a lot of really great perks. With memberships starting at $5 month, it’s easily worth it!

Frequently asked questions -

Can I still shop at Costco without a membership?

When you visit a Costco warehouse, you'll discover all the valuable savings we have to offer. As a nonmember, you may still purchase prescriptions from a Costco pharmacy with cash, debit, Costco Shop Cards or a Visa® card. However, you must be a paid member to enter the warehouse and purchase any other items. https://www.costco.com

Can I use someone else's Costco card?

The Costco membership card is non-transferable, but there are several ways to share the experience with family and friends. Anyone with a card can bring up to two guests to the Warehouse during each visit. Keep in mind that purchasing items is exclusive to Costco members. https://customerservice.costco.com
